NEW WASHINGTON—Members of New Washington St. Bernard were part of the success story of Crawford County’s Relay for Life June 19-20. The Relay is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity.

The event began with the “Cancer Survivor’s Celebration.” Each year the number of survivors continues to grow and reminds attendees of the reason for participating in the Relay. This year the St. Bernard team was honored to have Jim Yosick represent New Washington as an “Honorary Chair.”

Despite the storms, Relay was once again a success with the teams raising nearly $150,000 for the fight against cancer. This was the sixth Relay for the St. Bernard Relay for Life Team. The team raises money throughout the year. Thanks to the generosity and support of the community, this was the fifth year the St. Bernard team was a Platinum Team (raising more than $10,000). Since the team was formed in April 2004, it has raised nearly $75,000 for the American Cancer Society.

The St. Bernard team is sponsored by the St. Bernard and Mother of Sorrows Rosary Altar Societies and includes members from several area churches. New members are always welcome.
