WILLARD—Willard St. Francis Xavier hosted the 10th annual Back to Heartland Youth Elect Service (YES) weekend at the end of June, which drew 100 youth, young adult and adult participants from communities including Mansfield, Crestline, Galion, Monroeville, Norwalk, Bucyrus, New Washington, Tiro, Willard, Plymouth and Lexington.

The volunteers were broken into five work teams that left the church early Saturday to serve at 11 work sites in the surrounding communities, doing everything from painting, cleaning and minor repairs to yard work for the elderly or those needing assistance. When the group returned they attended a special luau planned by the kitchen crew for a 10th anniversary celebration. Sue and Al Bishop of Bucyrus coordinated the YES event, and the theme “Dive Into Service,” was used during all prayer times of the weekend. The weekend concluded with the celebration of Mass at St. Francis, and Mrs. Bishop challenged the youth to continue to “dive into service” every day of their lives.
