TOLEDO—Jesuit Father Joaquin O. Martinez is to be the new president of St. John’s Jesuit High School and Academy, effective July 1.

Fr. Martinez, from the Jesuit’s California Province, was selected after a 15-month national search process. Jesuit Father Thomas Pipp, who agreed to serve as president for 2007-08 school year, will return to his role of vice president of Ignatian identity for the school.

Fr. Martinez has a Master of Education Degree in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from the School of Leadership Program at Harvard University, a Master of Divinity from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley and a California Teaching Credential (curriculum and pedagogy) from Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles. He also holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy with emphasis on Social Analysis from Loyola University, Chicago.

Fr. Martinez was most recently the assistant principal for campus ministry at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco and will be completing a period of continuing formation in the Society of Jesus at an apostolic mission in Amman, Jordan, before beginning duties at St. John’s this summer.
