PERRYSBURG—The seventh- and eighth-grade Power of the Pen teams from Perrysburg St. Rose School were among the teams from 26 area schools participating in the Power of the Pen district competition at Perrysburg Junior High School Jan. 12.

The St. Rose seventh-grade team won third place in the three-round competition and seventh-grader, Courtney Dane, received a Best of Round award.

The eighth grade team won first place in the competition and four of the eighth-graders, Juliet Hudson, Nicky Young, Becca Funke and Michael Valentic placed in the top 15 writers.

Junior high language arts teacher Martha Culley coaches both teams. The regional meet is in March in Findlay.
