SYLVANIA—The Franciscan Theatre of Lourdes College begins another season of Theater Vision with the return of some favorite programs and the addition of new features and shows.
“The Very Hungry Caterpillar” returns Feb. 12 and 13 with shows at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., accompanied by Eric Carle favorites “The Mixed-Up Chameleon” and “The Little Cloud.”
In “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia combines “black light” theater, masterful puppetry, delightful music and special effects. A post-performance demonstration and question and answer session follows, allowing audiences to meet the puppeteers and learn more about the magic of theater.
In conjunction with the 10 a.m. shows, the Lourdes Life Lab hosts a special Theater Vision Day “Simply Science with the Very Hungry Caterpillar.” The Life Lab crew presents an exciting life-cycle science session that links storytelling and language arts with concept-rich science experiences for “whole child” learning.
Theater Vision brings national theatrical touring companies to the Franciscan Theatre and Conference Center to present plays and musical performances that are open to the public but created particularly for students pre-kindergarten through high school age. Theater Vision Days enhance performances, giving students an opportunity to meet the performers, get a look backstage and learn more about themes and ideas presented in the shows.
More than 23,400 students, teachers and parents attended productions last year and nearly 450,000 over the lifetime of the program.
