SYLVANIA—Verb Ballets, Cleveland’s national repertory dance company, is to perform “Lift.Breathe.Carry” in the Franciscan Theatre & Conference Center of Lourdes College March 28 at 4 p.m.

Based on Jeanne Bryner’s book “Tenderly Lift Me: Nurses Honored, Celebrated and Remembered,” the ballet brings the true stories of real-world nurses to life through poetry and dance.

Ms. Bryner is a registered nurse at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio. She has published several works of poetry and non-fiction, been a featured author in both national and international publications including the American Journal of Nursing and the International Journal of Arts Medicine and is winner of a 2009 Ohio Arts Council/VSC Fellowship Award.

The educational production features internationally-renowned dancers including Katie Gnagy, who trained and performed with Ballet Contemporaneo de Burgos in Spain; Catherine Meredith Lambert, who studied with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and the London Contemporary Dance School; Michael Metcalf, founder and director of the Cleveland Contemporary Dance Theatre; and Brian Murphy, who has performed with BalletMet, the Nashville Ballet and the Ohio Ballet.

The mission of Verb Ballets is to promote and develop interest in and appreciation for contemporary dance through performances that promote learning and nurture wellness, audience and community dialogue and advocacy efforts. Through their performances, nurses have an opportunity to recognize how the art and reverence of nursing comes to life through literature, poetry and song.

The performance is free and open to the public. To register for this event and for more information, contact Fran Hendren, administrative assistant in the School of Nursing, at 419-517-8943.
