SYLVANIA—Sylvania Franciscan Sister Karen Zielinski was recently named director of “Canticle Studio” for the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania.
Canticle Studio is part of the congregation’s advancement effort and has a mission of being a creative center where artists generate works, products and services in harmony with and support of the mission of the Sisters of St. Francis.
The studio will focus on music composition, writing for publication, especially on themes of coping with disability and illness, expansion of the Holy Aromas product line of soaps made by the sisters, and development of other products and services as ideas emerge.
Sr. Zielinski has served as director of communications for the Sisters of St. Francis since 1991 when she started the office. She edited and designed The Poverello, the quarterly newsletter for the congregation; the Justice and Peace Focus newsletter and other internal newsletters; managed the Sisters of St. Francis’ Web site (www.sistersosf.org) and handled press for the congregation.
Sr. Zielinski is also a freelance writer, with regular columns in the local “Healthy Living News” and the national publication, “Real Living with Multiple Sclerosis.” She has been published by Abbey Press, “The Way of St. Francis” magazine, and “Inside MS,” the official magazine of the National MS Society.
Sr. Zielinski, who has lived with MS for 33 years, was the first person with MS to chair the Northwestern Ohio Chapter of the National MS Society Board of Trustees. She speaks regularly at local and national meetings on the topic of health and spirituality.
She holds a master’s degree in choral performance from Bowling Green State University and taught secondary school for sixteen years. She studied graphic design at Lourdes College.
