SYLVANIA— Lourdes College and the Sisters of St. Francis host an Earth Expo Oct. 11, at the Franciscan Theatre and Conference Center.
The Expo, which begins at 9 a.m., features exhibits by area organizations, civic leaders and businesses who are taking steps to help the environment. In addition, the Expo is to be part of a global community summit hosted by Earth Charter International.
At 12:45 p.m., the Expo joins 30 cities in Canada, Ghana, Japan, the Philippines, Senegal, the United Kingdom and Zambia during a worldwide Webcast. Each participating city is to broadcast a two-minute presentation sharing how they are addressing climate change.
The Earth Expo also includes live music from Kerry Clark and the Sylvania Northview High School Jazz Ensemble, as well as children’s activities. Guest speakers Luke Gascho, executive director of the Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center at Goshen College in Indiana, and Dr. Alvin Compaan, chairperson of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Toledo, are to give presentations focusing on environmental sustainability and solar energy.
Sponsors of the Expo include Lourdes College, Sisters of St. Francis, City of Sylvania, Earth Charter International, First Energy Corporation and Sylvania Franciscan Academy.
