SYLVANIA—The Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania and Lourdes College are presenting the cultural talents of the Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti. Through traditional Haitian dance and drumming, performers explore themes of human rights and liberation while also celebrating the history and culture of their country.

The Resurrection Dance Theatre performs in the Franciscan Theatre & Conference Center at 7 p.m. Oct. 9. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the show. A special matinee performance is being presented for $5 in advance or $6 at the door at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 8.

Tickets can be purchased at the Franciscan Center box office or by calling 419-824-3999. Proceeds directly benefit the St. Joseph’s Home for Boys and the Sisters of St. Francis ministry in Haiti.

In 1985, Michael Geilenfeld, a former brother with Mother Theresa’s Brothers of Charity, established the St. Joseph’s Home for Boys in order to offer children living on the streets of Haiti a safe and supportive place to live and learn. With the establishment of the school, Mr. Geilenfeld also began the Resurrection Dance Theatre, providing an opportunity for the boys to share their stories through dance and music.

Since its inception, the Resurrection Dance Theatre of Haiti has performed throughout the United States and Canada, including at Dance Africa Chicago and Dance Africa New York. Today, St. Joseph’s has grown to comprise three homes serving more than 60 children in Haiti.
