Headmaster named for Sylvania Franciscan Academy |

SYLVANIA—Richard Kohler has been appointed headmaster of the Sylvania Franciscan Academy.
Founded by the Sisters of St. Francis, the private, Catholic elementary school is to be operated by Lourdes College through its Department of Education Teacher Education program beginning this fall. Dr. Kohler will lead the general operation of the academy, as well as direct future expansion and enhancements.
“As headmaster, Dr. Kohler will play an integral role in establishing the academy as a learning environment unparalleled in this region,” notes Robert C. Helmer, Lourdes College president.
Prior to his appointment, Dr. Kohler served as assistant superintendent for the Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disability Services and the Lucas County Board of MR/DD. He also serves as a member of the graduate faculty for Lourdes College’s Master of Education program. Dr. Kohler earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree from Xavier University and earned a Doctorate of Education from the University of Cincinnati. He serves as a deanery counselor for the Diocese of Toledo Child and Adult Sexual Abuse Panel and has served on the board of directors for the Richland Academy of the Performing Arts.
