Lourdes College hosts Luminations gala April 24 |

SYLVANIA—Business leaders and members of the community are to gather April 24 for the 10th annual Luminations scholarship fundraising gala at Lourdes College.
Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Guillard are serving as honorary chairs for the event, which takes place at the Franciscan Theatre & Conference Center. Brian Terrell, a sophomore majoring in social work is to serve as the student speaker.
Beginning at 6 p.m., guests have the opportunity to support Lourdes College students, network and sample Toledo’s fine arts. The evening begins with cocktails, grazing stations and a unique silent auction until 8 p.m. Live music from the Maxx Band is to welcome guests as they arrive. The evening concludes with an array of desserts, coffee and after dinner drinks from 9-11 p.m.
Entertainment starts at 8 p.m. and features performances by the Toledo Ballet, the Toledo Opera, the Toledo Symphony and former Miss America Susan Powell. The Toledo Ballet is to perform a piece choreographed by Michael Lang and set to the music of the Irish-Norwegian duo The Secret Garden. The Toledo Opera is to perform pieces from The Magic Flute and the Toledo Symphony is to perform music by George Gershwin.
Since her reign as Miss America in 1981, Susan Powell has performed for audiences in renowned theatres, opera houses and concert stages. Audiences have seen Ms. Powell play Johanna in Harold Prince’s production of “Sweeney Todd” at the New York City Opera and Micaela in “Carmen.” She has starred in more than a dozen theatrical works with the Paper Mill Playhouse, Sacramento Music Circus, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Dallas Summer Musicals, The Ogunquit Playhouse and the St. Louis Muny.
Since its inception in 2001, Luminations has raised nearly $1 million for Lourdes College students. This year, platinum sponsors HCR Manor Care and Northwestern Mutual Finance Network join more than two dozen other sponsors in support of Luminations and student scholarships at Lourdes College.
