Lourdes College hosts science summer camps

SYLVANIA—Students entering grades five through 10 this fall are invited to participate in “Plant Pollinators and Paleontology,” a summer camp hosted by the Lourdes College Life Lab.

Campers are to explore nature on the college campus, see connections between plants and insects, study area fossils and gain awareness of food and how it is grown.

They can choose from one of four identical camp sessions, which meet from 12:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. daily: July 13-17, July 20-24, July 27-31 or August 3-7. The cost is $95 per camper, and limited scholarship money is available. For more information or to register, contact Sylvania Franciscan Sister Rosine Sobczak at rsobczak@lourdes.edu.

The Department of Chemistry and Physical Sciences is also hosting a summer science camp June 23-25 for students entering grades five, six and seven.

Participants are to explore physical science through activities related to weather, physics and geology; learn about environmental science by taking a nature hike and analyzing water samples; and explore space science by viewing a movie in the Lourdes College Planetarium and making an Alka-Seltzer rocket.

The cost is $60 and scholarships are available. To apply, submit a one-page typed essay on why you are interested in science.
