SYLVANIA—U.S. Representative Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) will commemorate Arbor Day with the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania April 25. Activities begin at 11:30 a.m. at the campus of Lourdes College in Sylvania.

“We are focused on reforesting our natural treasures,” says Rep. Kaptur, who cites the loss of more than 20 million trees to the emerald ash borer beetle locally. “Individuals, community groups, local businesses and all levels of government have taken the initiative to combat this scourge, but we must stay vigilant and committed.

“We owe it to our health, our environment and our future,” she adds.

Rep. Kaptur and Sisters of Saint Francis will plant trees and pass out free seedlings to everyone in attendance. Representatives of public organizations and area nurseries will provide information about tree planting. Rep. Kaptur will also announce the winner of the youth Arbor Day poetry contest.

Events are free and open to the public. For more information call 419-824-3623 or 419-824-3627.
