DEFIANCE—The Catholic parishes of Defiance kick off a new season of Generations of Faith in September with two concerts by ValLimar Jansen, a highly regarded singer, workshop presenter and college professor.
Known especially for her work with gospel, contemporary Christian and gospel-jazz styles, ValLimar sings a wide range of music. She has toured professionally in the U.S., Europe and Japan, and has also presented at many liturgical and pastoral conferences throughout the country.
She performs Sept. 16 and Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 111 Elliott Lane in Defiance. This two-day event is free and open to the public.
“Generations of Faith” is lifelong, intergenerational faith formation for the whole Catholic community of Defiance: St. John and St. Mary parishes. Adults, youth and children gather once a month for two hours to grow in faith together. Generations of Faith creates many opportunities to use God-given gifts as parishioners participate month-by-month as a household, provide hospitality, teach as a catechist, prepare snacks, set up the gathering spaces and offer childcare.
This year’s focus — “Acting for Justice” — is designed to help participants to see the world through the eyes of Jesus, to make decisions based on Gospel values, and to act in order to give everyone a place at the table. According to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, “Catholic teaching affirms that all persons, even those on the margins of society, have basic human rights: the right to life and to those things that are necessary to the proper development of life, including faith and family, work and education, housing and health care.” Knowing what is going on in the world, knowing why it matters and knowing how to respond are all on the agenda this season.
All are welcome to attend the September concerts and the monthly faith formation opportunities. For more information, contact Notre Dame Sister Mary Dean Pfahler at 419-782-7121 or 419-782-2776.
