TOLEDO—Toledo Central Catholic High School’s technology director, Chris Hamady, was a featured presenter at the Society for Information Technology & Teacher Education (SITE) conference in San Diego.
The conference, held from March 29 to April 2, focused on the use of information technology in teacher education and instruction about information technology in faculty and staff development.
Mr. Hamady was joined by the Central Catholic board of director’s technology chairman, Berhane Teclehaimanot, in the presentation titled “Reflections of a 1 to 1 Laptop Program: Lessons Learned.” Mr. Teclehaimanot is involved in curriculum and instruction at the University of Toledo.
“Presenting at the SITE conference was an incredible experience,” Mr. Hamady said. “I was fortunate to interact with and learn alongside of educators and technology leaders from all around the world. The high point of the conference for me occurred when a group of educators from Sweden remarked that they felt that Central Catholic was definitely a leader in educational technology, not only in Ohio, but in the world as well.”
Central Catholic implemented its One Connected Community laptop program in the fall of 2007. The program provides an Apple MacBook computer to every incoming freshman student at Central Catholic. By this fall, all four grade levels will have their laptops and will be participating in the program.
The One Connected Community program is designed to improve student performance, integrate technology into the learning environment and ensure that all students are prepared for the digital world of today and tomorrow.
