OREGON—An intervention specialist has been added to the staff of Oregon Cardinal Stritch High School and Kateri Catholic Academy in support of the schools’ mission to ensure all students achieve at their highest academic potential.
“As we begin our first year as a K-12 school system on a single campus, we are adding this important role to our staff to ensure we provide the best possible academic environment for all students,” says Kelli Malinowski, principal of Cardinal Stritch High School and Kateri Catholic Academy.
As the intervention specialist supporting students at all grade levels, elementary, middle and high school, Megan VanGorder is to assist teachers in identifying students with learning difficulties and work with their parents and teachers to develop a plan with specific goals and objectives based on the student’s needs.
Ms. VanGorder, who has a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and is completing a master’s degree, says the school will follow the inclusion model for students who have learning disabilities.
“Students with learning difficulties will remain in their regular classroom and will come to me for assistance in areas they need help with,” she explains. “If students are in need of help taking tests, I will offer varied testing options such as reading test questions to the student or extending the time allowed for test taking.”
