Central Catholic alumna to play volleyball in Germany

TOLEDO—Toledo Central Catholic High School graduate Ellen Herman has signed a contract to play professional volleyball in Germany with VT Arubis Hamburg.

During her stellar Central Catholic career with the Lady Irish volleyball team, Ms. Herman was named City League and District Player of the Year as a junior and senior and was the first volleyball player in Central Catholic history to earn All-State honors twice.

After graduating in 2006, Ms. Herman went on to play for the Ohio University (OU) Bobcat program that won three Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season championships, three MAC tournament championships, and had four National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament berths.

Ms. Herman is the OU and MAC all-time leader in kills and she is Ohio’s all-time leader in points and attacks. She was named MAC Player of the Year and was a member of the All-MAC First Team for four years. She was also a three-time MAC All-Academic selection and was recently honored as an Outstanding Senior Leader at Ohio University’s Leadership Awards Gala.

A member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national student-athlete honor society, Ms. Herman carried a grade point average of 3.49 at OU as a health service administration major.
