Lourdes College signs athletes, joins NAIA

SYLVANIA—The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently named Lourdes College as one of its newest members.

The Lourdes College Gray Wolves are now seeking membership in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) to compete alongside nine other teams from Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

The NAIA includes more than 50,000 student-athletes participating at nearly 300 member colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. Divided into 25 conferences and the Association of Independent Institutions (AII), the NAIA offers 23 championships in 13 sports.

Beginning next school year, Lourdes College is to offer men’s golf, women’s golf, women’s volleyball and men’s basketball.

Brooke Darah, a senior at Sylvania Northview High School, signed as the first official member of the Gray Wolves women’s golf team. The college has also signed four women to play volleyball, including Amanda Drew, Brooke Hearn, Adrienne Kanitz and Kirstin Kirk.

Ms. Drew and Ms. Hearn previously played volleyball in high school and as students at Owens Community College. Ms. Kirk also played in high school and at the collegiate level with Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Mich. Ms. Kanitz, a high school senior, has played for Milan High School.

Andy Borcherdt, a Sylvania Southview High School senior, also recently signed with Lourdes to play for the inaugural Gray Wolves men’s basketball team.
