TOLEDO—All of the 12 seniors of the 2010 St. Francis de Sales High School varsity baseball team received City League All-Academic honors for their hard work in the classroom and on the field.
On the field, however, the team didn’t have the season they had practiced or planned for with a record of 14-8
“In all my years of coaching baseball I cannot recall a team with 12 seniors and we cannot recall a team where every senior received All-Academic honors,” says Tim Gerken, head baseball coach for St. Francis. “We didn’t have the wins that we wanted, but I still wouldn’t trade any of these boys for any other. I’m real proud of my guys, and I know their futures will be filled with success.”

The Knights were in the final four for the City League and the district titles.
All-Academic honors are awarded to seniors who have maintained a 3.0 or better for 16 quarters and have earned their varsity letter. In all, St. Francis has 65 All-Academic Award winners for the past school year with nearly half of these athletes having varsity letters in more than one sport.
“I’m so proud of these young men,” says Oblate of St. Francis de Sales Father Ron Olszewski, president of the high school. “They came here from great families and great parishes around the city. They leave here as champions in my book.”
