Little Sisters of the Poor celebrate anniversaries

Sister Marie Lucille Garvie, 70 years
Originally from Holytown, Scotland, Sr. Garvie professed first vows in Queens, N.Y., Dec. 9, 1940.

She trained as a nurse and served the residents in Detroit and Toledo. Sr. Garvie excelled in the Apostolate of the Collecting (begging) for many years and she is still remembered at the Produce Market in Detroit and in many of the churches where she held a basket on Sundays.

Sister Rose de la Trinite Yawman, 60 years
Sister Yawman, formerly Ruth, hails from Rochester, N.Y., and professed vows June 20, 1950 in Queens, N.Y.

She presently serves at Sacred Heart Home in Oregon in the sisters’ dining room and coordinates the Sacred Heart Senior Center.

Coyle Funeral HomeSr. Yawman has served in various positions of administration and of caring for aged residents in Michgian, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Ohio and Indiana.

Sr. Raymond Kortenhof, 25 years
Born and raised in Chicago, Sr. Kortenhof graduated nursing school as an licensed practical nurse in 1976, entered the Little Sisters of the Poor in 1978 and made her first profession in 1980 and final vows in 1985.

Sr. Kortenhof has served in many homes of the Little Sisters throughout the U.S. and has also served in Canada and France.

This is her second assignment at the Sacred Heart Home in Oregon. She was assigned there first in 1988 and returned in December 2008.
