TOLEDO—In honor of its 20th anniversary year, five Toledo St. Martin de Porres parishioners and the parish’s founding pastor are to be honored during the 10:30 a.m. Mass Sept. 25.
Those being honored include:
Father P. Martin Donnelly, founding pastor of St. Martin de Porres and recently retired pastor of Toledo Blessed Sacrament, is being honored for receiving the Central City Ministry Service Award at the Urban All American Awards Banquet in May.
Thelma Anderson, a founding member of Toledo St. Benedict Parish, an African-American parish that was closed in 1955 and now a member of St. Martin de Porres, received the Diocese of Toledo Centenary Award from Bishop Leonard P. Blair in June.
K.LaVerne Redden, director of social ministry at St. Martin de Porres, received the Nancy Atkins Impact Award at the Toledo Area Ministries Gala in May. This award was given for services to the community beyond the parish.
Tom Dibling, director of The Claver House Ministries sponsored by St. Martin de Porres, is to receive the Betty Kelly Beatitudes Lodestar Award for his ministry in feeding the poor. This award is to be given at the Mass.
National honors were given to Michael Youngblood and Tiffin Franciscan Sister Nancy Westmeyer. Mr. Youngblood, director of the diocesan office of Black Catholic Ministries and Evangelization, received the Youth Evangelization Award at the 8th Interregional National African American Evangelization Conference in Jackson, Miss. Sr. Westmeyer, founding director of The Servant Leadership Center, was honored with the Franciscan Peacemaker Award at the Annual Franciscan Federation Conference in Milwaukee, Ill.
During the Sept. 25 liturgy, each honoree is to be given an opportunity to speak of the criteria required to receive the award. A reception follows the liturgy.
