Cathedral music director and organist Paul Monachino is to lead the choir. Scripture selections tracing the prophecies of Christ’s birth are to be read by cathedral parishioners during the service led by Msgr. William J. Kubacki, rector.
In the years since its inception at the cathedral, the Advent Lessons and Carols service has become an annual tradition for many. The late afternoon light filtering through the stained glass of the cathedral provides a fitting atmosphere.
The service begins with an evening thanksgiving prayer followed by six lessons from the Old Testament prophets culminating with the Gospel account of the Annunciation of Jesus’ birth to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Each Scripture lesson is followed by an appropriate Advent anthem sung by the choir or a carol for the congregation.
The service is free and all are welcome. The cathedral is located at 2535 Collingwood Blvd. Ample parking is available and the cathedral is handicap accessible. For more information, call 419-244-9575.
