TOLEDO—Graduates of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing class of 1962 had the opportunity to renew lifetime friendships during their recent 50th reunion celebration.

During a banquet at The Premiere in Toledo May 31, Irene Held Brooks, a member of Perrysburg Blessed John XXIII, was named 2012 Distinguished Graduate.
Fifty classmates also met for a luncheon and tour of the present Mercy College of Ohio and had the opportunity to view a video highlighting their student training days from 1959-1962.
During their schooling, two incidents in Toledo shaped their career lives forever: in October 1960, they treated the mass casualties that resulted after a plane carrying the Cal-Poly football team from San Luis Obispo, Calif., crashed at Toledo Express Airport. As students they also treated many of the 71 burn victims of the June 1961 Anthony Wayne Trail gasoline truck explosion and fire.
