CAREY—As part of the Diocese of Toledo’s ongoing centenary celebration, a Diversity Mass and Celebration is scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. July 18 at Carey Our Lady of Consolation.
Guests are encouraged to wear cultural attire to the event, which features worship, ethnic foods and performances.
The event opens with Mass at noon celebrated by Bishop Leonard P. Blair. Readings will be done in various languages that represent the heritage of Catholics throughout the region. The Mass also is to feature a sign language choir, a reading from Braille text and sign language interpretation.
Following the Mass, different ethnic foods are to be available and performances are being lined up. Mexican, African-American and Irish groups have confirmed their participation. Food and entertainment is available through 4 p.m.
A rosary procession and Eucharistic devotions are scheduled at 2:30 p.m.
People who live in the Toledo area have the option of taking a bus from the Catholic Center in downtown to the program. The bus leaves at 10 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m. The cost to ride is $5. To reserve a seat or for more information, call 419-244-6711.
