Tiffin Franciscan Sister Alice Pethe died July 11 at St. Francis Home in Tiffin. She was born December 24, 1911, in Frenchtown, Ohio, to Joseph and Alice (Kirian) Pethe. Sr. Pethe served as a teacher at Fort Jennings, Carey, Millersville, Toledo Central Catholic High School and St. Francis High School in Tiffin; team member of the Better World Movement; novice mistress and councilor for the congregation; diocesan director of religious education in Ottawa and Defiance; and pastoral associate at St. Michael’s Ridge. Sr. Pethe, who was known for her love of the Scriptures, also taught Bible classes in parishes throughout the Toledo Diocese. In Vero Beach, Fla., she ministered in Leadership Development in Neighborhood Apostolate for St. Helen’s Parish. At the time of her death, Sr. Pethe was a minister of prayer for the congregation. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Christine Jacobs, Esther Parker and Catherine Slater; and five brothers, Raymond, Cletus, Linus, Herman and Vincent Pethe.
