Sylvania Franciscan Sister M. Louis Bielat died June 17 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania. The former Mary Bielat was born to Louis and Frances Bielat Sept. 8, 1912, in Windber, Pa., and entered the convent in 1924 from St. Ladislaus Parish in Hamtramck, Mich. She professed her final vows in 1935. Sr. Bielat spent her whole life ministering in health care, working as a medical and lab technologist in hospitals her community sponsors in Ohio, Michigan and Texas.  In the 1970s she became a cytologist and studied the structure and function of cancer cells at Mercy Hospital in Toledo. Sr. Bielat’s second love was gardening.  She had a reputation, especially in her later years, for tending well-manicured gardens on the motherhouse grounds. Her most popular one is a rose garden that can be seen from the Rosary Care Center dining room windows. Sr. Bielat will be missed by her sisters in community, her family and her friends.
