PORT CLINTON—“Give God a Second Thought?” is the theme of a 3-day mission scheduled Dec. 6-8 at Port Clinton Immaculate Conception.
Fr. John Collins, former diocesan director of campus ministry and pastor at Ohio State University, is the mission priest. Over the past decade, Fr. Collins has conducted more than 300 missions and preached more than 30 retreats for priests and religious. He presently works in evangelization and mission work from his home parish St. Paul the Apostle in New York City.
The mission features two sessions per day. The morning sessions follow 8:30 a.m. Mass and the evening sessions begin with an opening prayer at 7 p.m. The Monday theme is “What Good is God?” and Tuesday’s is “Why prayers don’t work” and the final session’s is “Ten kinds of people we don’t have to love.”
The purpose of the mission is to identify God in everyday life events. Fr. Collins helps people to develop their own personal “faith story.” Articulating this faith story enables individuals to see God in their lives, leading to greater commitment and dedication to witnessing to Christ in the world. The stated goal of the mission is to stir the flames of faith that often lie dormant within people.
Fr. Collins appeals to people’s experiences both positive and negative. He helps individuals explore and identify God in the events of their lives, sharing their faith with others and becoming more loving.
The mission is open to all. Pre-registration is not necessary to attend.
