TOLEDO—Clergy from a number of faith traditions are leading a prayer service called “Worker Justice through the Lens of Faith” at 3 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Monroe Street United Methodist Church, 3613 Monroe St.
The service of prayer, word and song features speakers Imam Farooq Aboelzahab of the Toledo Islamic Center; Father Jim Bacik, pastor of Toledo Corpus Christi; the Rev. Otis Gordon, pastor of Warren African Methodist Episcopal Church; and Rabbi Alan Sokobin, retired from the Congregation Shomer Emunim.
The idea for the prayer service was formed and organized by a number of priests in the Toledo area: Father John Blaser, Oblate of St. Francis de Sales Father Jim Cryan, Father Martin Donnelly, Father Frank Eckart, Oblate of St. Francis de Sales Father Tom Landgraff, Father Robert Reinhart, Father Raymond Sheperd and Father Robert Wilhelm.
“The event is about prayer, not politics. Nor is it a rally,” the organizers wrote in a letter to priests of the diocese. “After deliberation, we have decided to invite metro-Toledo religious communities to surround this important concern with prayer.”
