TOLEDO—Two Toledo men recently professed vows as Oblates of St. Francis de Sales.
During a ceremony June 30, Joseph A. Newman, 28, and Rudi Schwarzkopf, 32, declared they were making their profession out of love for God and a firm resolve to consecrate themselves more fully to God and to follow Christ more closely. They professed perpetual vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. The ceremony took place in the Toledo St. Francis de Sales High School chapel.
Mr. Newman is the son of Michael and Andrea Newman of Toledo Christ the King, and Mr. Schwarzkopf is the son of Rudy and Kris Schwarzkopf of Toledo St. Thomas Aquinas.
Both men are graduates of St. Frances de Sales High School. They have completed six years of formation with the Oblates, which included a postulant year of apostolic internship as secondary education teachers, a year of novitiate or intense spiritual formation and academic preparation culminating in the reception of a master’s in divinity.
Mr. Schwarkzopf and Mr. Newman are candidates for ordination to the temporary diaconate and priesthood in the year to come.
