MANSFIELD—Seven individuals are to be recognized by Mansfield St. Peter’s Hall of Fame during a dinner and program Oct. 22 at 6:15 p.m. at the Masonic Temple on Middle Bellville Road.
Those being honored for their example of service in Christ’s plan and their contributions of time and talent to church, community, family life and/or profession include Sidney A. Foltz, Dan Krous, Joe Marzetti, Frank Russo, Rose and Patsy Saul and Robert H. Sliney.
Mr. Foltz was born Oct. 20, 1923, and graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1941. He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated from the School of Consumer Banking at the University of Virginia. Mr. Foltz served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He and wife, Mary O’Hearn Foltz have been married for 64 years. They have four children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. After working with two local companies, Mr. Foltz joined the Richland Trust Company in 1952 and retired in December 1989 as senior vice president. He has served as president of parish council, a lector and Eucharistic minister, Stephen Minister, on the hospital visitation team and funeral choir and as co-financial chair for the annual parish festival. He is also a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Serra Club. Other areas of involvement have been the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), the 1958 Mansfield Sesquicentennial parade, United Way and Kiwanis. He received the George F. Hixson Fellowship Award, one of the Kiwanis International Foundation’s highest honors. His favorite project has been 28 years of service to the Special Olympics.
Mr. Krous was born in Mott, N.D., April 16, 1936, where he grew up on a farm with five sisters and three brothers. After graduating from high school, he served for two years in the U.S. Army. In 1969, he and his wife, Gladys, moved to Mansfield and joined St. Peter. Mr. Krous was employed by Ohio Edison for 27 years and retired in 1996. He then worked for Lehr Awning for 10 years, “officially” retiring in 2006. His involvement with the parish Boy Scout program spanned a decade and his parish activities include involvement with the festival and working on various jobs around the school and church over the years. Mr. Krous and his wife have two children, Bruce and Stephanie, both graduates of St. Peter’s High School, and three grandchildren.

Mr. Marzetti, a Mansfield native, graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1960 and then spent four years in the U.S. Navy as a shipboard electrician. After being discharged, he served a four-year apprenticeship with International Brotherhood of Electrical Worker’s Local Union 688 and then worked some 40 years as a construction electrician. Joe retired in 2003. His involvement at St. Peter over the years includes helping with many repairs and upgrades to the parish properties including more than 40 of the St. Peter festivals and installing new lights in the art room, a new boiler and heating controls in the elementary school, air conditioning in the church, and working on new computer cable lines and telephone cable lines in the Montessori, Annex and Franciscan Activity Center buildings. Locally, he has been involved with the Richland Economic Development Corporation, the Industrial Incubator Project and the Ohio AFL-CIO. He married Marsha Russell in 1970 and they have two children.
Mr. Russo was born in Columbus and attended elementary and high school in Canton, Ohio. Serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he was stationed in Japan. Upon his discharge, he attended Kent State University. Over the years Mr. Russo worked for two finance companies and the Central Trust Bank and then moved to Mansfield in 1981 to work at Mansfield General Hospital (Med Central Health Systems). He retired in 1996. He has been involved in Serra Club as president and has served as Eucharistic minister. He also takes Holy Communion to nursing home and assisted living residents, the hospital and the home bound and has ushered and been a server at Mass and worked bingo. Mr. Russo also served on the Msgr. Dunn Foundation for Education, parish council and Catholic Charities. He is the vice president of the Richland County Veterans Service Commission and has also been involved in the Health Board, Korean War Veterans Association, Commander of American Legion Post 16, Harmony House Board, Mansfield Cancer Foundation, Rose of Sharon events for scholarships, United Way, Rehab Center, Day Spring for Veterans, Area for the Aging, Knights of Columbus, Richland Newhope and many Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day parades. He and his wife, Polly, have a daughter and three granddaughters.
Rose and Patsy Saul were both born in Uniontown, Penn., and married there in 1951. Mr. Saul graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in accounting. He worked for Westinghouse and was transferred to Lima in 1953. In 1974, he moved to the Mansfield Westinghouse plant as the division controller and retired from there in 1991. Mrs. Saul graduated from high school in 1948 and after her marriage, became a full-time mother for their three children and now is grandmother to their six grandchildren. While their children were in school, she became an active volunteer in many school functions including Catholic Women’s Club, the Miss Ohio program and United Way.
Mr. Saul has been St. Peter’s lay representative on the Interchurch Council where he serves as treasurer. He has also been involved with pastoral council and Catholic Charities. Together, the couple chaired the One Faith Many Blessings fund drive and serve as facilitators for parish retreats and assist the liturgy committee, Feed the Needy ministry, funeral lunch team, garage sale, annual festival, mailing projects, parish pictorial directory, prayer group and RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program). They also sponsor a child in Guatemala through the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.
Mr. Sliney was born in Cleveland and graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. He teaches primary grades for children with multiple disabilities and for 30 years has served as the scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 123, a troop consisting of scouts with special needs. Mr. Sliney is also a lector and a Eucharistic minister and has served on the parish retreat team for a number of years. The Hall of Fame dinner is open to all, with a cost for adults of $15 and for children age 10 or younger of $7.50. Reservations must be made in advance; mail a check made payable to St. Peter’s Parish along with names of those for whom reservations are being made to Kathy Morris, Marketing/PR, St. Peter’s Parish Center, 104 W. First St., Mansfield, OH 44902. No tickets will be mailed; names will be placed on the reservation list for check-in that evening. Reservation deadline is Oct. 14.
