SYLVANIA—Sylvania Franciscan Sister Shannon Schrein, Lourdes University's theological studies chair was recently honored at the Franciscan Federation’s 2012 conference “Releasing Energies to Love: Creative Fidelity in the Church" in Cincinnati.
Sylvania Franciscan Sister Shannon Schrein
Sr. Schrein received the Franciscan Federation Award, which recognizes those who, within the church, have lived an outstanding Franciscan life and ministry. Honorees are selected for embodying Francis’ and Clare’s witness to creative fidelity; nurturing the ecclesial communion of love to which Jesus invites us; embracing the church with all its ambiguities; and giving hope to the doubtful and the discouraged.
As Lourdes University professor and chair of theological studies, Sr. Schrein is a teacher, author, member of the executive board of the American Theological Society and lecturer. As a Franciscan woman she exemplifies both Francis’ love for the church and his willingness to respectfully challenge it when necessary.
The mission of the Franciscan Federation is to promote the exploration and study of Franciscan Evangelical Life and its implications for these times and for the world. For more information visit www.franfed.org.
