Central Catholic graduate awarded $10,000 scholarship

TOLEDO—Kelsey Lortz, a 2012 graduate of Toledo Central Catholic High School, was named a winner of the Medical Mutual Memorial Scholarship. The $10,000 scholarship is to be awarded over the next two academic years.

Kelsey was valedictorian of her class, a member of the National Honor Society, and a Commended National Merit Scholar. She participated on the Central Catholic crew team, played the violin in the school orchestra for four years and was a member of the Spiritual Commission.  She was a summer volunteer for Toledo’s YES Project and works part-time at the Toledo Zoo.

She plans to major in creative and professional/technical writing at Bowling Green State University.

Medical Mutual awarded eight scholarships company-wide to children of employees. Applicants were judged on several factors with academic performance and community service given the highest consideration.

She moved back to Sylvania from West Virginia to recover at Rosary Care Center, where she continues to seek out ways to serve God and those around her in daily life.
