Students earn 22 awards for newsmagazine

TOLEDO—Toledo Notre Dame Academy swept several categories in the Magazine Format category in the University of Toledo 2012 Media Day Print Contest. 

The Vista magazine news staff earned 22 awards for print, including honorable mention for front page layout. They also received the top honors in the following categories: news story, feature story, column, news photo and sports photo.

Senior Haley DeKeyser won first place in the best writer competition.  Other Vista staff members are seniors Breann McDede, Emily Thomas and Alexandra Aughenbaugh along with junior Brianne Szymanski.

In addition to the Best Writer honors, Haley also received honorable mention best news story for “Love Bites More than Heart;” first place feature story for “NDA Migrates to Aid Under Privileged Kids;” third place sports feature for “Mind Blown by Concussions;” first place column for “Homeless Remain Hungry for Money — Let Caution Beat Addictions;” second place news photo; and third place feature photo.

Brianne received honors for third place news story for “New U.S. Military Tactics Target Irregular Warfare;” third place feature story for “Picture Perfect: How to Take Great Photos;” honorable mention sports feature for “Athletics Score Early Admission;” second place feature photo; and second place sports photo.

Breann received first place news story for “Occupy Wall Street Grows; Toledo Joins;” second place editorial for “Impact of Alumni Giving;” and honorable mention news photo; first place news photo; honorable mention feature photo; and second place sports photo.

Emily received second place feature story for “Use YouTube Your Way: Make Videos, Cash;” third place column for “Dirty Pictures Capture Concern;” and first place sports photo.
