Central Catholic basketball teams stay busy during Christmas break

TOLEDO—The Fighting Irish of Toledo Central Catholic High School have several basketball games scheduled during the holiday break.

For the second consecutive year, the Irish are scheduled to play in the Blade’s High School Basketball Classic at Toledo’s Huntington Center. Games begin at noon Dec. 29.

The Basketball Classic consists of four girls and boys high school games scheduled every two hours, as follows:

Noon – Toledo Notre Dame Academy vs. Fremont Ross High School
2 p.m. – Sylvania Northview High School girls vs. Start High School
4 p.m. – John Hay High School boys vs. Bowling Green High School
6 p.m. – Toledo Central Catholic High School boys vs. Elida High School

Tickets for the High School Basketball Classic are $4 for students and $6 for adults when purchased at Central Catholic High School. All tickets at the Huntington Center are $8.

Also Dec. 29, the Central Catholic and Elida junior varsity and freshman teams are to play at the CCHS Sullivan Center. The freshman game is at 1:30 p.m. and the junior varsity game is at 3 p.m. Guests presenting a pre-sale ticket to the Huntington Center event will get one free admission to this doubleheader.  Otherwise, ticket prices are $3 for adults and $2 for students.

On Dec. 30, the Fighting Irish varsity team travels to Bowling Green State University to take part in the first high school basketball event at the university’s new Stroh Center. This varsity doubleheader features Columbus Grove High School vs. Ottawa Glandorf High School at 7 p.m. and Central Catholic taking on Bowling Green High School at 9 p.m. All tickets are $6.

The ticket for the BGSU event also allows one admission to the freshman and junior varsity doubleheader between BGHS and CCHS earlier in the day on Dec. 30 at Bowling Green High School. The freshmen play at 11 a.m. and the junior varsity game is at 12:30 p.m.

Tickets to both the Dec. 29 and Dec. 30 events are available at Central Catholic during normal business hours.
