TOLEDO—Toledo St. Francis de Sales High School has chosen Brad Britton as its new varsity basketball coach, succeeding Nick Lowe who resigned after nine seasons.

“We are extremely happy to have Brad Britton as our head varsity basketball coach,” says Carl Janke, St. Francis athletic director. “He was an assistant coach for three years under Val Glinka on the 1983 state championship basketball team. He returns to St. Francis with many years of coaching experience.”

Mr. Britton has coached boys basketball for 20 years at McComb High School, Margaretta High School and most recently at Hopewell-Loudon High School in Bascom. Under Mr. Britton’s coaching, the McComb team was 1987 Blanchard Valley Conference champions; district champions in 1987 and 1997; and six-time sectional champions. Mr. Britton also served as athletic director at McComb and Hopewell-Loudon for a total of 14 years.

He is a 1979 graduate of the University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Education degree majoring in comprehensive communications. He also has a master’s in sports administration.

“It is exciting and a great opportunity to return to St. Francis where I am familiar with the tradition of excellence that exists,” he says. “I have been a head coach for 20 years, and am looking forward to coaching the caliber of student-athlete that comes to St. Francis. Although it is a huge decision to return, it was not a difficult one. The pride and spirit that exists at St. Francis doesn’t compare to other places I have been.”

Regarding the challenges facing him as coach, Mr. Britton said, “At this late start, we need to hit the ground running getting things organized. I need to get to know the players and their talents and abilities. They need to learn my expectations and we need to discuss their goals and expectations. It’s time to get to work.”

Mr. Britton is also joining the faculty to teach freshman English and world history. He and his wife, Mary Beth, have two children, both students at the University of Findlay.
