The Ohio Knights of Columbus recently launched “Knights Helping Knights,” a new Web site to link job seekers with job providers within the ranks of their organization.
The online job board, which can be accessed through the “Jobs” link at www.kofcohio.org or directly by visiting www.tradtitle.com/kofcjobs, is the result of an idea put forth by Charles Kramer, Grant Knight of Ascension Council 4324 in Johnstown, Ohio.
Mr. Kramer relates the concept came from an experience that happened within his own council, where an unemployed member was able to find a new job in his field through conversations with a fellow Knight. Another member of Council 4324 volunteered to design and maintain the site, and it went live a few months ago.
Mr. Kramer notes it was the dream of Father Michael McGivney, founder of the Knights of Columbus, to help support families that had lost their husbands in the late 1800s. Families are struggling again today with so many people out of work in the difficult economy, and “it’s basically the same situation,” says Mr. Kramer.
Any member in good standing with the Knights of Columbus of Ohio can register with and use the Web site to share or search job openings, post resumes and job requests and discuss employment topics with other Knights in the forums.
The site had about 125 registered users by the end of September, but Mr. Kramer notes there are more than 100,000 Knights in Ohio who could be using it.
“We need more people to post job listings on there,” adds Mr. Kramer. He encourages any Knight who hears about job openings through his employer to register with the Web site and post that information.
