TOELDO—Toledo Central Catholic High School welcomes Tony Dungy, author and former professional football player and NFL coach, as the featured speaker in the CCHS Reads program March 9.
Mr. Dungy is to address the student body after they have read his January 2009 book, “Uncommon, Finding Your Path to Significance.”
Mr. Dungy is to speak at a 2 p.m. assembly in the CCHS Sullivan Center. The assembly is open to the general public, and tickets are available for $20 each in the main office or the athletic office.
There are to be other opportunities for donors to meet Mr. Dungy at a luncheon for an additional fee. Contact the CCHS Office of Institutional Advancement at 419-255-2306 for more information.
The CCHS Reads program began at Central Catholic three years ago to encourage students to read for fun. In the program, teachers and students read the same book and then study it as it is integrated into classroom lessons. CCHS Reads is designed to promote lifelong reading by encouraging students to read and discuss an author’s work before and after the author visits the school for an all-school assembly.
Mr. Dungy played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants. He was head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1996 to 2001 and the Indianapolis Colts from 2002 to 2008. He became the first African-American head coach to win the Super Bowl when the Colts defeated the Chicago Bears in 2007. He retired from coaching in 2008 and now serves as an analyst for NBC’s Football Night in America.
In his book, Mr. Dungy reveals lessons on achieving significance, particularly focusing on what it means to be a man of significance in a culture that is offering young men few positive role models.
