SYLVANIA—Athletes throughout the region will soon have the opportunity to tee off with the Gray Wolves as Lourdes College adds golf to its growing list of athletic programs.
Beginning this fall, the college is to offer men’s and women’s golf alongside men’s basketball and women’s volleyball.
The golf teams are to compete at the Sylvania Country Club, an 18-hole course designed by the late Willie Park Jr., a professional golfer and golf course designer. The course is rated 72.4 and has a slope rating of 132 on Rye grass. During the Lourdes inaugural golf season, both teams are to compete as independents with plans of applying for NAIA membership by the 2010-2011 academic year.
Scott Simon and Mike Killian are to direct and manage both teams. Mr. Simon is the director of human resources at Lourdes and is to serve as head golf coach. Mr. Killian, the vice president for finance & administration at the college, is to serve as assistant coach.
Both coaches are actively recruiting student athletes for the fall 2010 season. For more information visit www.lourdes.edu/athletics or contact Scott Simon at 419-824-3743 or Mike Killian at 419-824-3730.
